security and risk

What we do, and what can go wrong.

Your controls are yours, and prices are the risk that remains. This page states both plainly.

security

How is an account protected?

By controls you hold from the account, a check before sensitive actions, and plain words about who holds the assets.

Controls from the account
Freeze the card, set a spend limit in dollars, or close it, all from the account. A frozen card declines every charge and changes nothing else.
A check before sensitive actions
Showing the card's full number, and any other action that exposes sensitive detail, asks you to confirm it is you before it runs.
Who holds the assets
An asset you send us is held by Gether together with other members' assets. You hold a balance with us, not a key, so you are exposed to us as a counterparty. If we fail, are hacked, or make an operational mistake, you can lose assets our records say are yours, and no insurance and no government scheme makes that loss good.
Where we stand
Gether is not a bank. We hold no compliance certifications, no SOC 2 and no PCI attestation, and we show no badges we do not hold. The legal documents are drafts pending counsel review, under /legal.

financial risk

What can go wrong?

When nobody has done anything wrong, this is the ordinary behaviour of an account whose spending power is derived from prices that move.

Prices move
Your spending power is derived from what your locked positions are worth now. When they fall, it falls, and it can fall below what you have already drawn.
Repayment
Drawn balances have to be repaid. Repayment stays owed whatever the market does.
The required level
Locked collateral has to stay above a required level. As the cushion thins the account says so, and at the required level new charges are declined.
A sale
Collateral can be sold to cover what you have drawn, at market prices and on the market's timing. A sale can happen without notice, and it realises whatever gain or loss the position carries at that moment. What happens when prices fall
Eligibility
Which assets can be locked, and the share each counts for, can change. An asset accepted today can be removed tomorrow.
Tax
Selling is what creates a taxable gain, and spending against your holdings does not sell them. A forced sale does sell. Nothing on this site is tax advice.
Performance
Keeping a position means keeping its downside. Gether changes what you can do while holding, and changes nothing about what your holdings do.
